  What if a Word Was Worth One Thousand Pictures?

The Oscars telecast always makes us happy and sad. Happy that some (short) attention is being paid to short films. Sad that many of the great short films that we see every year - done on low budgets or no budgets; filmed with shoe strings, passion and hope - will never even be considered for an Academy Award.

So, this year, we thought that we would do something about that, and award the first ever YoungCuts KUDOS.
And this time, the Academy was YOU!

This was the closest of the results so far. If Look Up had been watched just 6 more times, it would have flipped the results.

Gwyneth wins a free submission to the YoungCuts Film Festival for her next project (or the project of a friend and fellow filmmaker) as well as free publicity for any fund-raising that she needs to do to create her next short film project. 

 

Congratulations as well to Jake Oleson & Amanda Prager the co-directors of Look Up for finishing in a very strong second place and to Joseph Procopio, director of Onion Skin for coming in 3rd. Thanks to all the filmmakers who contributed their films!

The YoungCuts Film Festival is the Premiere International Showcase for Great Short Films by the World's Best Young Filmmakers (29 and under).

Established in 2001, every year, the festival selects its Top 100 International Short Films from more than a thousand films from over 30 countries.

Unlike many film festivals, YoungCuts is not a black box. For filmmakers making paid submissions, we offer feedback when and where appropriate; we present their short films to our film industry partners including producers, distributors and programmers - this has led to short films being presented on TV, licensed for outdoor festivals and programmed by other film festivals who view us an expert on short films by young filmmakers. With your paid submission, you also gain privileged access to watch, vote and be inspired by great short films from young filmmakers around the world.
