Read below for more details, but the quick version is that the AluCine Latin Film+Media Arts Festival is launching a youth initiative called Paso-A-Paso which will be a FREE ten-day intensive dance-camera workshop series that will provide youth with the tools and guidance for completing a short movement film.

Completed works will be showcased during the 13th AluCine Latin Film+Media Arts Festival taking place March 27th-31st and considered for the 12th YoungCuts Film Festival, held the last week of September.

Call For Participation: Paso-A-Paso

AluCine Latin Film+Media Arts Festival is proud to launch Paso-A-Paso, a youth program directed towards Latino/a and Aboriginal communities starting in February 2013. Paso-A-Paso’s main objective is to nurture and foster the artistic endeavors of underserved youth through a ten-day intensive dance-camera workshop series that will provide youth with the tools and guidance for completing a short movement film. Through the program we hope to increase the support for emerging Latino/a and Aboriginal artists and provide them with new skills for a means of self-expression and creation.

Youth Participants:
The program is designed for youth roughly between the age of 16 and 22 who are interested in media arts and/or dance. We are looking for students who would like to participate in this free intensive workshop under two avenues: as dancers and/or as filmmakers. Interested participants should send us an idea for a short film, which will be interpreted into a movement piece. Students will learn how to use the camera specifically for movement. Dancers should send us a short bio.

The Artists:
Participants will work with renowned filmmaker Alejandro Valbuena who will provide students with the necessary tools and guidance for completing a whole piece. Students will learn how to develop scripts, shoot and post-production editing. Participants who are interested in the dance portion will work under award winning choreographer, Olga Barrios, who will guide students through a series of choreography and movement exercises. The Program:
Paso-A-Paso is a ten-day intensive program that will begin on February 4, 2013. The program is absolutely FREE and the resulting films will be showcased at the 13th annual Alucine Media Arts Festival taking place from March 27th – 31st. This is a great opportunity for students and/ or emerging artists who want to acquire further skills in film as well as dance. Please note that all participants should have basic computer and video skills. Interested film participants should submit a short idea for a film and dancers should submit a bio by emailing: outreach@alucinefestival.com.

Alucine Latin Film + Media Arts Festival se enorgullece en lanzar Paso-A-Paso, un programa dirigido a jóvenes  de las comunidades Latinas y aborígenes el cual dará  inicio en Febrero de 2013. El objetivo principal  de Paso-A-Paso es nutrir y fomentar los esfuerzos artísticos  de los jóvenes que viven en Toronto.

A través de diez días en una serie de talleres intensivos de danza para la cámara, se ofrecen a los jóvenes las herramientas y orientación para completar un cortometraje de movimiento. Mediante este programa, esperamos incrementar el apoyo a los artistas emergentes  tanto latinos como aborígenes y proveerles de nuevas capacidades así como medios de expresión y creación.

Jóvenes participantes:
El programa está diseñado para jóvenes entre las edades de 16 y 22 años que están interesados ​​en las artes digitales y / o la danza. Buscamos estudiantes que deseen participar en este taller intensivo gratuito bajo dos vías: como bailarines y / o como cineastas.
